WASHINGTONRep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) issued the following statement in response to today's news of an economic stimulus agreement between the White House and House Congressional leadership:

“With continued progress between Congressional leadership and the White House, we’re another step closer to a final bipartisan package for economic stimulus,” said Capito.  “This is great news and I applaud the bipartisan dialogue surrounding this important issue.

“It’s becoming obvious that this is a targeted plan that will put money back into the pockets of low and middle income families.  It will also make much-needed reforms to the Federal Housing Administration to help homeowners struggling with the housing crunch.  These reforms are the product of hard work in our housing subcommittee, and I’m glad to see their inclusion in this package.

“The President and Congressional leaders in both parties deserve credit for their willingness to come to agreement quickly, and I urge my colleagues to act swiftly and echo this bipartisan approach.”

Congresswoman Capito is the Ranking Member on the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity.
