Members of Congress have the privilege of recommending a select group of individuals for admission to the United States service academies: Army, Navy, Air Force and Merchant Marine. I invite students interested in applying for a congressional nomination to one of the military service academies to contact my Charleston office in the spring of their junior year. The limited number of available appointments is highly competitive. Applicants should be residents of the Second Congressional District of West Virginia and between the ages of 17 and 22.

The United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut, offers appointments solely on the basis of an annual nationwide competition. There are no Congressional appointments or geographical quotas involved.
