Capito Appointed To Violence Against Women Conference Committee7/30/12
Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., was today named a conferee on the bipartisan, bicameral committee charged with reconciling differences between House and Senate versions of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA).
“As the former chair of the Congressional Caucus on Women's Issues, I am committed to ending domestic violence. Supporting programs like the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is an essential step in achieving this goal. Especially in rural communities like West Virginia where victims of domestic violence and sexual assault in rural and remote communities face unique obstacles in their efforts to escape abusive and dangerous relationships, support provided by VAWA can literally be lifesaving.
“I am honored to have been chosen by House Republican leadership to serve on this committee, and I look forward to productive conversations about how to best move this important legislation forward.”
