Rep. Shelley Moore Capito serves on the House Financial Services Committee, which has jurisdiction over the nation's housing and financial services sectors. Members oversee banking, insurance, securities, public housing, real estate and other financial institutions. As a senior member of the committee, Rep. Capito is the chairman of the Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, which has jurisdiction over banks and the banking industry, depository institutions and federal deposit insurance. It also oversees all financial regulators, including the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Federal Reserve, and all matters pertaining to consumer credit. She also serves as a member of the Financial Services' Housing and Insurance subcommittee.
Given the importance of infrastructure improvements throughout West Virginia, Capito also serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. The committee has oversight over federal transportation officials and manages legislation related to aviation, roads, bridges, mass transit and railroads. It also oversees the work of the Army Corps of Engineers and key infrastructure needs. She is a member of three subcommittees: Highways and Transit; Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Material; and Water Resources and Environment.
Capito is also the co-founder of the Congressional Coal Caucus.
