House Acts Again on Capito 5 Point Plan to Lower Gas Prices

May 23, 2007

WASHINGTONRep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today supported the Federal Price Gouging Prevention Act, legislation aimed at ensuring gas prices at the pump are not artificially inflated.

"West Virginians deserve to know that the price they're paying at the pump hasn't been artificially inflated," Capito said.  "The steps outlined in my five-point plan to reduce gas prices are more in need of Congressional action now than they were last year.  Congress needs to act urgently to pursue a comprehensive solution that brings down the price of gas for those struggling with high prices at the pump."

Last year, Capito outlined a five-point plan that Congress should follow to help bring relief to West Virginians suffering from the high cost of gas.  Along with banning price gouging, Capito's plan also called for temporarily waiving boutique fuel regulations, temporarily waiving the tariff on imported ethanol, utilizing West Virginia coal, and expanding domestic energy exploration to include the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) in Alaska and the Outer Continental Shelf off our nation's coastline.
