WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today joined Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (FL-05) and other Members of Congress in announcing the introduction of a bipartisan resolution providing Congressional support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“As the most common form of cancer affecting American women, breast cancer has an impact on all of us,” said Capito. “This resolution will highlight the ongoing efforts to raise awareness for breast cancer research, detection and treatment.”
“We owe it to the nearly 180,000 women that will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year to do everything we can to support their fight against this terrible disease.”
Every three minutes a woman in the United States is diagnosed with breast cancer, making it the leading cause of death among women between the ages of 45 and 54. Yet, the survival rate for women – and men – with breast cancer is over 98 percent when the cancer is detected in its early stages.
