WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) yesterday joined President Bush in a White House ceremony to honor William Wolk, the artist-in-residence at West Virginia’s famed Greenbrier Resort.
“William Wolk's work is exceptional and I am proud that an artist from West Virginia was welcomed into the Oval Office to present the President with such a wonderful portrait,” said Capito. “It is great to see William receive the recognition he deserves.”
Yesterday’s White House ceremony recognized Wolk for his post-9/11 portrait of President Bush.
“It’s an honor having my work in the Presidential collection,” said Wolk. “It’s flattering to think that my painting is hanging in such historic and recognized company.”
His painting portrays the President in the aftermath of the September 11th terrorist attacks and features a plaque etched with the words uttered by the President in his address to the nation: “We will not waiver, we will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail.”
Wolk came to White Sulphur Springs in 1984 after studying at the Ringling School of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence, Italy. His art has been featured throughout the United States and around the world.
