Capito Says House is Dragging its Feet on Real AMT Relief

Congresswoman Says Senate Reached Bipartisan Agreement, House Must Do the Same

WASHINGTONCongresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today released the following statement after voting against a second misguided attempt to pass legislation addressing the alternative minimum tax (AMT):

“This is the second time the House has taken up a misguided approach to address the alternative minimum tax,” noted Capito.  “Unfortunately, House Leadership has again chosen political posturing over bipartisan cooperation in order to add tax hikes on millions of Americans.

“Like legislation I co-sponsored earlier this year, the Senate AMT bill would provide needed AMT relief without raising taxes and it passed with overwhelming bipartisan support. This is the path the House should be taking.

“More than 46,000 West Virginians will see their taxes increase by an average of $2,000 unless Congress passes a clean fix.  We owe it to these taxpayers to drop the political gamesmanship and pass a bill that can actually become law.”
