WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today expressed her disagreement with legislation to authorize intelligence activities after voting to oppose the Conference Report to accompany the National Intelligence Authorization:
“It is clear that much of our nation’s most valuable intelligence information is a product of human intelligence gathering,” said Capito. “Yet this bill fails to provide the resources necessary for our human intelligence collection to be successful.
“In this era of ever-developing technology and communication, it is imperative that we have operatives on the ground to gather critical intelligence in order to effectively combat terrorist threats. Rather than emphasizing and bolstering human intelligence capabilities, this conference report would enhance bureaucratic inefficiencies and gut important research and development programs.
“The last thing our intelligence community needs is an expanded bureaucracy. Congress should make human intelligence a top priority, and then give our intelligence community the resources they need to be effective.”
