WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released the following statement today after voting to oppose yet another politicized energy bill from House Leadership that includes $18 billion in tax hikes:
“Yet again we’re faced with an energy bill that completely ignores our country’s most abundant source of domestic energy,” said Capito. “This is merely a politicized and misguided tax hike on American energy that will do nothing to support West Virginians struggling with high energy prices.”
“By ignoring clean coal technology and any real investment in domestic sources of energy, they ignore thousands of hard-working West Virginians that are the life blood of our nation’s most readily available source of energy. The leadership’s bill provides no incentive for domestic production of energy, refuses to acknowledge the technological promise of clean coal, and will result in increased costs that are sure to be passed on to hard-working West Virginians.”
“West Virginians deserve an energy policy based in common sense and innovation, not in an over-blown commitment to job-killing tax hikes.”
