WASHINGTON – Rep. Shelley Moore Capito today issued the following statement to congratulate Jefferson County resident Frank Buckles – the nation's sole surviving World War I Veteran – who was honored today in dual ceremonies at the Pentagon and in the Oval Office of the White House with President George W. Bush:

"West Virginians can take great pride in knowing that our state is home to Frank Buckles," said Capito.  "Known for his optimism and hopefulness, he sets an example for all of us to follow and it is only fitting that he spent today being honored by the White House and the Pentagon.  As our nation's sole-surviving World War One Veteran, he will always have a place in history."
