Letter from Shelley
Friends and Colleagues,

There is great news to report on the economy this week, as well as the ongoing effort to tackle the illegal immigration problem in our country.
Ending Taxpayer-funded Housing Assistance for Illegal Immigrants
Late last week, the House passed legislation I sponsored that will help ensure illegal immigrants are not able to benefit from federal housing assistance funded by taxpayer dollars.
Our immigration system is clearly broken, and if we are to successfully crack down on illegal immigration, we must do more than secure our borders. We must also reform and strengthen government programs to ensure they are not acting as incentives for people to come to our country illegally.

Dow Breaks Record and Closes Above 14,000
With half of American households holding investments in the stock market, this week's record-breaking Dow Jones close above the 14,000 mark was great news for many American families.
I believe this solid economic news is due in large part to the tax relief we recently implemented that cut taxes for everyone who pays them. As your congresswoman, I will continue to support policies that continue to keep your taxes low while helping grow our economy.
Sincerely,

Member of Congress

To purchase a pack of cigarettes or a six-pack of beer, a person in West Virginia has to show a photographic identification that proves he or she is old enough to buy tobacco or alcohol.
But to get a government subsidy for housing, no such identification is required. That may change soon, thanks to Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito. The Republican from West Virginia successfully amended the annual authorization for Section 8 housing vouchers to require that recipients prove with some sort of identification that they are legal residents in the United States.
