WASHINGTON – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) released the following statement regarding the shutdown of federal government operations:

“I am deeply disappointed that September 30th has come and gone without passage of a continuing resolution to keep the federal government open. On Monday I voted for a continuing resolution that would have averted a government shutdown while at the same time ending the special health insurance subsidy provided to Members of Congress and providing individual Americans with the same delay that President Obama provided to businesses.

“I have said repeatedly that I oppose a government shutdown. Congress is supposed to be about fixing problems and negotiating to a better end. Unfortunately this is entirely the gridlock that West Virginians have come to resent in Washington. Tomorrow is a new day and my hope is we solve this crisis quickly.”
