Capito to Introduce No ObamaCare Subsidies for Congress Act

Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Shelley Moore Capito (WV-02) will introduce the No ObamaCare Subsidies for Congress Act of 2013 after the August district work period.  The Office of Personnel Management recently announced that it will provide a roughly 75 percent subsidy to Members of Congress for the purchase of a health insurance policy on the exchange.
Capito will not accept any health care subsidy made available to her and her legislation would end this special treatment for Members of Congress.  Under her bill, Members of Congress would be treated like any other American who purchases an individual health insurance policy from the exchange.
“Americans continue to lose under President Obama’s health care law.  At the same time the president is unfairly choosing to give businesses a free pass for a year and leave everyday Americans out in the cold, families across the country are bracing for skyrocketing premiums.  As long as ObamaCare remains law, Members of Congress should not receive exchange subsidies that are not provided to other Americans.”
