Capito Announces $350,000 Loan for New Water Tank in Harpers Ferry

March 6, 2007

WASHINGTON - Rep. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) today announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded the Corporation of Harpers Ferry a $350,000 loan through the Water and Waste Disposal Direct Loan Program.

The funding will be used to replace the existing 190,000 water tank built in 1917 with a new 261,000 gallon tank that will serve 826 customers.

"This is great news for these water customers in Harpers Ferry," said Capito. "Reliable access to clean water is a critical quality of life issue, and these funds will help ensure that access to those in Harpers Ferry."

The mission of the USDA Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan Program is to develop water and waste disposal, including solid waste disposal and storm drainage, systems in rural areas and towns with a population not in excess of 10,000. Rural Development serves as the lead federal entity for rural development needs and administers program assistance through its rural housing programs, rural business programs, and rural utilities programs.
